WHERE ANCIENT PRINCIPLES MEET MODERN REMEDIES

The Soma Sanctuary

INTEGRATIVE SOMATICS + SKIN THERAPY

The practice of Chinese Medicine spans a wide variety of treatment options beyond acupuncture. During my doctoral education I obtained my specialization in Chinese herbal medicine after my own life changing experience with herbal protocols. While my expertise centers itself in internal medicine, I am excited to introduce my colleague and friend, Lora Lakanal. A licensed skin therapist, somatic practitioner, yoga teacher, and life-long lover & learner of all things Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Loras talent is her ability to blend external herbal applications with internal nervous system regulation techniques. A session with Lora is not a typical “aesthetic facial”. It is a skin treatment rooted in traditional Chinese Medicine theory, practices, and products. This type of treatment wouldn’t be complete without the somatic practice she incorporates to address the pillars of mind & spirit. This includes releasing tension patterns, sensory stimulation, acupressure massage, facial cupping & gua sha, lymph drainage, and meridian pathway manipulation.

LORA

LICENSED SKIN THERAPIST, INTEGRATIVE SOMATIC PRACTITIONER, 500 E-RYT

Lora has been an advocate for self care from a very young age. She studied to become a Licensed Skin Therapist in 2011 and has worked in the skin industry for 13 years.

In 2013, while living in Philadelphia, Lora became a 200 hr Registered Yoga Instructor after finding yoga to be a powerful tool to balance her nervous system. Yogic philosophy introduced Lora to the importance of mind-body connection, and how the two are intrinsically woven. This changed the trajectory of both her studies and her own personal healing journey.

Lora Spent 5 years in San Diego where she taught yoga full time and immersed herself in ongoing education including her 300 RYT. She went on to earn her Integrative Somatic Therapy Practitioner certification from the Embody Lab and has been studying Traditional Chinese Medicine through a movement practitioner lens, under the guidance of Dr. Rose Erin Vaughn and Science of Self yoga, and has completed her Meridian Yoga Therapy certification.

Lora infuses eastern and western healing modalities into all of her offerings and treats the body, mind and spirit as a whole. Her hope is to help individuals develop a deeper, more balanced connection to themselves.

She now resides in Virginia Beach with her husband.
